An Automatic Jazz Accompaniment System Reacting to Solo
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents an automatic accompaniment system for jazz that understands solist’s intention of improvising and outputs expressive accompaniment of a bass guitar and drums reacting to solo. Previous systems extracted just one parameter as solist’s intention and output accompaniment by switching registered patterns. Our system can understand solist’s intention in more detail by extracting five parameters as his intention from solo. In addition, to make accompaniment rich in variation, this system directly alters accompaniment data such as loudness, pitch and the number of notes, according to those parameters. In our experiment, it outputs appropriate accompaniment following the solist’s intention.

Evolutionary Jazz Improvisation - Jazz Harmony and Solo Improvisation Created by Means of Evolutionary Algorithms with Automatic Fitness
This paper describes the Evolutionary Jazz Improvisation (EJI) system for creation of jazz harmony and jazz solo improvisations based on evolutionary algorithms with automatic evaluation. The evaluation function is implemented using score calculation based on specific events recognized in the chord progression and solo line, and alignment to different optimal intensity increase and relaxation c...
متن کاملAutomatic accompaniment for improvised music
Modern music students practice improvisation playing on top of a software that generates accompaniment, but it does not listen to the musician’s input. Automatic accompaniment systems provide appropriate musical accompaniment to a human player in a given musical context by listening to them. We are interested in developing an AAS. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to build a system that...
متن کاملAutomatic Fitness in Generative Jazz Solo Improvisation
IMPROVISATION Kjell Bäckman Informatics Department University West Trollhättan, Sweden ABSTRACT Recent work by the author has revealed the need for an automatic fitness function in the evolutionary algorithm for generation of jazz solos. A computer based automatic fitness function enables greater populations and a great number of generations within a manageable time. This paper describes how th...
متن کاملNew Sonorities for Early Jazz Recordings Using Sound Source Separation and Automatic Mixing Tools
In this paper, a framework for automatic mixing of early jazz recordings is presented. In particular, we propose the use of sound source separation techniques as a preprocessing step of the mixing process. In addition to an initial solo and accompaniment separation step, the proposed mixing framework is composed of six processing blocks: harmonic-percussive separation (HPS), cross-adaptive mult...
متن کاملDecision-Based Transcription of Jazz Guitar Solos Using a Harmonic Bident Analysis Filter Bank and Spectral Distribution Weighting
Jazz guitar solos are improvised melody lines played on one instrument on top of a chordal accompaniment (comping). As the improvisation happens spontaneously, a reference score is non-existent, only a lead sheet. There are situations, however, when one would like to have the original melody lines in the form of notated music, see the Real Book. The motivation is either for the purpose of pract...
